I’ve had this shoot idea rattling around my brain for almost over a year now, so I thought to myself the other day ‘Fuck It Lets Do It’, I’m sending off 2018 with a creative BANG! For years now I’ve been working hard building my brand of photography, and basically saying yes to every opportunity that comes my way. Wether that’s weddings, corporate or commercial work I’ve never been the kind of person to shy away from the possibility of creating something.
I originally fell in love with photography in high school, flicking through pages after pages of art text books, soaking up ever single frame, every colour, every detail, every emotion. Artists like Francis Bacon, Jackson Pollock, Edvard Munch, Marcel Duchamp, Damien Hirst, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol have inspired me throughout the years and have shaped the way I see and interrupt the world around me. Not to mention the countless other modern day artists like Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, Peter Lindbergh, Bob Mizer, Irvin Penn, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, and Luke Austin just to name a few.
I’ve recently been inspired by Damon Baker, a photographer based in London/ LA who’s work transcends the idea of vanity. I will attach his instagram here, his work is fucking brilliant! I wanted to attempt a shoot in a similar fashion to his style, like a said this idea had been rattling around my brain for months.
So I got together with my best friend Nick, a man that hardly needs introduction, but a creative whacko and all around inspiring human. We set about on an afternoon of shooting in my backyard, a little pop up studio if you will, all we needed was a black backdrop, stool, a hose and a whole lot of weirdness. To say I’m proud of what we created would be an understatement. I’ve always considered myself an artist, but sometimes we get stuck in the grind and often forget about the abilities we possess, this shoot with Nick has lit a fire under my ass and get ready because you’ll be seeing a who lot more creative content in 2019. I will still be sharing weddings but I’m going to start chasing what made me, me!
