Lena + Richard first met in 2014. She was in Canberra attempting to ‘holiday’; making the most of her University break. Lena went down to catch up with her friend and her friend’s boyfriend, Patrick. She was sleeping on an air mattress and Richard was the next-door neighbour. When Richard walked into the room Lena was half-way through a bottle of red and she thought he was the cutest thing she’d ever seen. When I asked Richard what his first impression of Lena, his response was, “Damn son, Patrick has some pretty friends!” And so their love story began!
Where do I even begin to start talking about Lena + Richard’s wedding day?! The past two weeks since their nuptials I have been overcome with joy, ecstatically happy and constantly smiling as I’ve processed their final wedding gallery!
Lena + Richard got married at Albert Hall in Canberra, surrounded by 220 friends and family - oh, yeah, that wasn’t a typo! Legit - 220 people! I was calling this day the ‘Ben-Hur’ of weddings! I arrived the day before, travelling all the way from Newcastle, just in time for their wedding rehearsal. I can still remember seeing Lena’s face sandwiched into between her hands with a look of fear and stress out the front of the hall, but I quickly sought to change that! After running through their schedule, figuring everything out, telling jokes and chatting, soon everything was okay and the excitement for the following day began to build - and what a day it was!
Oh-my-golly-gosh! I’m almost at a loss for words, trying to summarise their wedding day. It was a day full of overwhelming emotions, tears, snot (on Richards behalf), laughter, a lot of use of the word ‘YAAAAS’, crank-ass dance moves and so many hugs! A truly profound wedding day, uniquely Richard and Lena! Besides all of the massive formalities and general hustle of the day, my favourite moment was when I grabbed Lena + Richard from their reception and told them to follow me outside just as the sun was starting to set. Those 10-15 minutes we spent together, in the most gorgeous light and scenery (image above) with the most gorgeous couple (next to a main road btw), is something that I will cherish forever. It was just them, with their wickedly choreographed handshakes, sarcastic sense of humour, raspberry kisses and, best of all, their undeniable connection! Honestly the images we captured in those moments are some of my all-time favourite images - and I’m generally very, very picky!
I can’t even begin to thank Richard + Lena for choosing me to capture their day, and I’m so unbelievably thankful for Tara + Luke’s wedding for aligning the stars and making it all possible! I feel like I’ve made two friends for life. Richard + Lena, you are both the most incredible, kind, generous, thoughtful, honest people that I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting! I also can’t wait to meet their fur baby, Indy!!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! XX
P.S. Lets all be a little jealous right now of their insane 6-week European holiday (losers)!!
